1970's Da Ye Loose leaf Raw Puerh

More Views

Produced from very strong leaves, containing all the hallmarks of old tree puerh tea, this loose leaf tea has had excellent & very clean storage.

The flavour is pure and clean, with slight plum notes, often found in puerh tea of this age. In the first few infusions there is a bitterness similar to old tree Bulang area teas and the leaves contain many strong, long buds. If I had to guess, I'd say this is probably from that region. The tea has been stored for many years in Taiwan in very clean storage.

The liquid is exceptionally smooth and thick, coating the mouth and throat.  It is very active in the mouth and leaves a pronounced cooling sensation on subsequent inhalations - even 10 minutes afterwards.

The flavour evolves well throughout the infusions.

I can highly recommend this tea as a good example of a well aged loose leaf puerh from old trees.

  1. waxing philosophical Review by Bev

rambling words of praise and pictures of the 1970's Da Ye found here: http://listeningtoleaves.blogspot.com/2011/11/1970s-da-ye-loose-leaf-raw-puerh.html (Posted on 10/11/2011)

  2. great! Review by Eugene

The good woody taste is very round and balanced, and while not being very strong, it leaves a surprisingly long and noticeable aftertaste. I liked this tea a lot! (Posted on 20/10/2011)

  3. exceptional loose leaf Review by DBJ

My new favorite loose leaf from EOT. The leaves seem to be slightly smaller than the 1970's Zhiye and better stored, with none of the slight frosting found on the Zhiye. There is a spicy aroma on the wet leaves. The mouthfeel is great and the flavor is complex and vibrant for a loose pu-erh. The taste expands to fill your whole mouth and the aftertaste stays on your tongue for a long time after drinking. This is a treat to drink. (Posted on 14/10/2011)

  4. Simply great Review by Žiga

I had a sample of this (thanks David) and I was very pleasantly surprised by this tea. This is a nice fully aged example of a sheng puerh. The leaves are very big, whole and healthy looking and the mouthfeel is exceptional. This is the best loose leaf sheng in the store. (Posted on 11/10/2011)
