2011 Half-handmade Zhu Lian Dan Cong Wuyi Yancha

This tea shocked me at first - I'd tasted a sample before asking the price or availability and in terms of quality, mentally placed it in a much higher price bracket. When I later found out the price, I was incredibly impressed.

The tea is from within the Wuyi scenic reserve (ZhengYan) and half-handmade under the supervision of Master Huang. The trees are approximately 60 years old.

The tea is medium oxidised and medium roasted. At the time of writing (Nov 2011), there is still a slight edge to the roast, which will fade and balance out over the coming year. Underneath, there is a rich, complex tea which coats the mouth and throat evenly and had a long, lingering aftertaste which develops and evolves even 20-30 minutes after drinking. The qi is pleasant and comfortable.

I can highly recommend this.

  1. wow what an improvemment Review by David

When I first received this tea I was impressed with the flavor and aftertaste. It was then a pleasure tondrink. Yet it was still a bit harsh from the roast. Just five months later and the difference in the mouthfeeel is dramatic. Before the tea left your mouth dry. Now it seemsnnto coat your mouth and leave it lubricated. With out the dryness taking away from the aftertaste I would say that this blows both of the 2010 Half handmade yannchas out of the water. This is a very easy to appreciate yancha. 2. Complex, noble and balanced Review by Max

The fragrance of tea leaves is just outstanding, very intense (but same time complex) and charming, something I did not expect. The tea itself is noble/delicate and calm, very balanced, it settles mind in peace. This tea is a great companion for a proper tea session, what can tell a different stories by it's taste and fragrance, as they change each other, but you yourself is like sitting in a big comfortable chair, covered in plaid and listens.

Every of several first infusions were a pleasant surprise because of change in taste and aroma it delivered - there always was something new, ripe fruit's notes, light roasting flavor, fresh bouquet of fields, echoes of jasmine at warm evening, sea coast, even some complex notes I was not able to describe.

The aftertaste was sweet and soft. Not sure about it being very long, but definitely is pleasant.

Thanks for the sample, it is a great tea I liked very much, considering on buying more in future. (Posted on 24/02/2012)

  3. Long Aftertaste Review by Israel

These are beautiful leaves and the roast is light enough to let a lot of brightness to come through in the flavor profile. It is very "clean" tasting and leaves the body feeling quite warm. The bright fruitiness lasts in the throat for a long while. Thanks for the sample! (Posted on 25/01/2012)
