2010 Handmade Lao Jun Mei Wuyi Rock Tea

More Views

This handmade yancha (Wuyi Rock Oolong) comes from old trees growing deep inside the Wuyi scenic reserve (ZhengYan).  It is completely handmade at every step from the studio of Master Huang

The leaves are lightly oxidised and lightly roasted, allowing the floral characteristics in the fragrance and flavour of this varietal to shine through.  This tea is very elegant and refined, is exceptionally smooth in the mouth with a flavour that lingers in the back of the mouth even an hour after finishing the tea session.

The name translates as Old Man's Eyebrows.

  1. An exceptional yancha Review by RC

I will start by saying that I am not the most capable reviewer in terms of being able to describe flavors well.

That said, I found this to be perhaps the best yancha that I have ever had. It also didn't taste like the DaHongPao / RouGui / ShuiXian that I usually drink. I have to admit that for most yancha I could not tell which varietal it is. This varietal however did indeed taste different from any other yancha that I have had. It seemed to be sweeter and more floral.

I really do think it is the best yancha that I have had but it is also the most expensive! If you're on a budget you can get better value from another yancha. However if money is no object then this is the tea. (Posted on 12/09/2011)
