This is the cake that originally lead us to sit up and take notice of the teas that Mr. Feng has been producing. We bought a few in 2010, when we chanced upon his tea shop. He was in the mountains at the time and his wife brewed this casually for us. When we tasted it, we knew we had to buy some, despite her insistance that it wasn't for sale. After a call to her husband, they agreed to sell us a little at that time.

This spring, when we visited again, we casually asked Mr Feng about this tea, and whether he might consider selling us some more. We'd already spent the day drinking high-powered teas with him, and all of us were in a good mood. He kindly agreed and offered to sell us a few tongs of this tea that he'd been keeping for his personal storage.

The tea is made from some specific ancient trees from different villages and blended by Mr Feng. It has been stored in Xishuangbanna since 2008 and has begun to darken in a pleasing way. In the brewing, it begins a little quietly, but within the first couple of infusions, really becomes very thick, with fading smokey hints and good qi. Very balanced in the mouth and coating the mouth and throat. The only drawback I can find is that perhaps it becomes slightly astringent in later brews, but this is really nitpicking with this tea.

This is a very good tea. It isn't inexpensive, but we thought it was worth it. There aren't many teas of this quality available in the world at any price.

Very often these gaiwans have been separated from their saucers, but these come complete with their original saucers.

The gaiwan with the hairline cracks is available for a reduced price. These hairlines are merely cosmetic and do not effect the function of the gaiwan.

These trees stand out from their neighbours as some of the biggest and oldest trees in their gardens.

This is a very special tea. It is composed of a large proportion of buds, from the first flush of Spring. The taste is very pure, thick and with plenty of strength. There is a hint of taste from the wok, perhaps it wasn't cleaned properly between batches during hand-processing, but this should settle over the coming months.

This is sold loose - per gram or in 50g boxes.

This is the first of our 2013 teas to arrive back from Yunnan - the others are coming on the slow boat and should be here early July.

Since then, we've had several requests for some more from people who missed out last time.

We were happy this Spring, when Chen Ju Fang produced these teapots that we'd ordered from her around 8 months ago - we thought she'd forgotten!

The clay is an aged Tian Qing Ni (also called Qing Hui Ni) clay from Master Zhou's storage. The pots are very nicely made & it's interesting to see how her skills have improved in the course of a year. The spout and proportions of the body are much more elegant and the lid-fit and pour are perfect.

A very nice pot, made from a clay that would be well suited to both young and aged puerh or roasted oolongs.
