Produced from 100% ancient tree leaves from trees around 3-500 years old growing around Bangwai village (a few hours drive north of Jingmai) & entirely handmade - picking, kill-green, rolling, drying and pressing of the bings.

This tea is thick & gloopy with a strong qi and long full aftertaste that coats your mouth.

  1. 2010 EoT - Bangwai Review by Sebastien

This tea is very smooth, with a changing profile over the brews, very interesting and quite to my tastes. A little more tough, and it would be perfect!
This cake is, for sure, very good - I should have say excellent - for drinking right away. For aging, see you in 5 or 10 years, but I am not sure that my cake will survive all this time ... (Posted on 26/11/2011)

  2. 2010 EoT Bangwai Review by CM

As the description suggests, this tea is very full-bodied. The dry leaves have a pungent scent and the first few infusions are thick and savoury, with a burnt sugar sweetness to the aftertaste. A strong tea, but with very little bitterness. (Posted on 14/10/2011)

  3. Very good performer Review by Tuochatea

This tea reminded me of teas produces by the famous Hai Lang Hao teas, the better ones. Though it lacks a bit of potency, it performs really well, especially considering it's pricetag.
The taste of the tea reminds me of an exotic perfume, and though it drops on the latter infusions, you can easily squeeze at least ten good infusion out of the leaves.

For me, this is the second best tea of 2010, right after the Mansai. (Posted on 12/10/2011)

  4. Very moreish ------ and Potent ! Review by Simeon

Smoooooooth , thick and gloopy . Some fruit , some nuts , a touch of complex tobacco , a very pleasing sweetness containing notes of dark caramel and liquorice . Nice and creamy . YUM !!! This is much deeper and darker in it's aroma and flavour profiles now that it has aged a little , and as stated in Giri Mandi's review it seems to be developing some very interesting woody overtones . Qi ? ------ STONED AGAIN ! (Posted on 10/10/2011)

  5. Still Banging Away! Review by Giri Mandi

Ah, I couldn't tell if Bangwai is the best from 2010's brood (Bulang is a terrific outsider, Mansai & Banpen redoubtable opponents), but surely a guarantee when you look for robust qi and a solid brew. After 18 months or so, it's developing very interesting woody overtones, and still banging away :)... (Posted on 04/10/2011)

  6. Ma préféré de 2010! Review by C

Un gout génial, sucré et frais. Une légère amertume est présente, juste ce qu'il faut pour une bonne longueur en bouche.
    A découvrir !

  7. Best of 2010? Review by RC

For me, this was the best of the 2010 EoT sheng, although I didn't try the Bulang. However since I tend to like more floral teas I don't think I would have chosen the Bulang, but who knows?

Back to the Bangwai - like the other EoT sheng, I find it to be "clean and pure." Comparing this to the Manmai I find this to be a more hearty and substantial tea. The umami is rather strong and as another reviewer said, this tea is very "thick" in the mouth. I quite enjoy this and suspect that it will age well.

  8. This tea has a lot of strength Review by DBJ

The tea has a pungent smell that is first noticed when opening the wrapper and carries into the cup . The taste is very strong, the taste concentrating in the front of the palate but carrying through the whole mouth. The qi is very strong & I would not recommend this tea on an empty stomach. While this isn't my favorite of the 2010 that I have tried (no Bulang), for drinking now. I think this one has the best foundation for ageing. (Posted on 11/09/2011)
